Google is still seriously active in the TV space. How the recent news that google wants to offer OTT channels relates to Schmidt’s words in the recent past thus remains vague. But the plans sound hopeful: full OTT channel streaming: hope they can afford it: good bandwidth does not come cheap. But if there is a company who can do it it is probably Google. Maybe HEVC could help: reducing bandwith by a factor 2 is never bad. And all of this does align with the Google middleware strategy: Android / Google TV. So maybe there is life left in TV for Google after all.
