RTL Deutschland reconsiders DVB-T distribution

In Germany DTT is a distant third in terms of penetration in households ehind cable and satellite. The penetration is boosted somewhat due to 2nd TVs being connected this way. RTL, the largest commercial FTA broadcaster has stated it would no longer pursue DTT distribution. ProsiebenSateins, their main competitor, had reacted by continuing their support for DTT.

Apparently now RTL has found it interesting to return to DTT: the German Government has plans to guarantee DVB-T2 spectrum for TV distribution. How this will roll out and what content can drive the consumer takeup remains to be seen. Maybe RTL would like to go HD with encryption (like satellite).
